Museum of Water – Bay of Bones, Archaeological museum on Lake Ohrid, North Macedonia.

The Museum of Water features reconstructed wooden houses built on stilts, standing above Lake Ohrid to represent an ancient lakeside settlement. Inside and around these structures, visitors can see archaeological finds that reveal how the settlement was organized and used.

Archaeological work from 1997 to 2005 uncovered a Late Bronze Age settlement buried deep beneath the lake bed. The excavations revealed thousands of wooden piles that once supported the foundations of these ancient dwellings.

The museum displays everyday items from ancient lakeside residents, including clay pots, tools, and animal bones that reveal how people lived and worked. These objects help visitors understand the practical skills and routines of prehistoric communities.

The museum is located outside the main town and operates on seasonal hours that vary throughout the year. Wear comfortable footwear since you will walk on elevated wooden walkways suspended over the water.

The site's name, Bay of Bones, comes from the enormous quantity of animal bones discovered during excavations. These remains provide clues about the diet and hunting practices of the ancient people who lived here.
