Kasteel Moersbergen, Medieval castle in Doorn, Netherlands
Kasteel Moersbergen is a castle near Doorn in the Utrecht region of the Netherlands, made up of two square sections arranged around a rectangular inner courtyard. The sections are connected by crenellated walls, and a pigeon tower from the 16th century stands at one corner of the grounds.
The castle dates to 1435, when the Utrecht Chapter gave Steven van Sleen permission to build on the site. In 1539 it was granted Ridderhofstad status, formally recognizing it as a noble residence.
The castle serves both residential and commercial purposes today, with offices and meeting spaces integrated into its historic structure. This blend of medieval layout and contemporary use shapes how visitors experience the site.
The castle sits near Doorn on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and can be seen from several points around the estate. Since it is currently used as a private residence and office space, it is worth checking access conditions before visiting.
In 1962, owner J.A.W. Luden donated the entire estate to the Het Utrechts Landschap foundation. This gift allowed the castle to remain in use while being looked after as part of the regional landscape heritage.
