Formule X, Steel roller coaster in Drievliet Park, Netherlands
Formule X is a steel roller coaster at Drievliet Park in Rijswijk, the Netherlands, fitted with a magnetic launch system. The track includes inversions and sharply banked turns packed into a compact layout.
The coaster opened in 2007 as the first X-Car model to use LSM launch technology in an amusement park setting. This was a departure from the traditional chain lift approach that most compact coasters relied on at the time.
The ride is decorated with racing-themed props like starting lights and fuel barrels, giving the whole track the feel of a motorsport chase. This theme runs from the queue area through the entire circuit, so the experience starts before the ride itself.
Riders must meet a minimum height requirement of 130 cm (about 51 in) to board, so it helps to check this before joining the queue. The ride is short and intense, so those sensitive to quick directional changes may want to prepare accordingly.
The entire track fits within a footprint of roughly 50 by 50 meters (about 165 by 165 feet), yet it still manages to pack in inversions and a multi-element layout. That combination of complexity and limited ground space was unusual for coasters of this type when it opened.
