Cannon Point Walkway, Hiking trail in Upper Hutt City, New Zealand.
The Cannon Point Walkway extends over 7.7 kilometers through the Akatarawa Forest, reaching an elevation of 341 meters above the Hutt Valley.
The steep track leading to the summit was established by farm owners who needed access routes for foot and horse transportation in earlier times.
The name derives from a fallen tree near the hilltop that local residents perceived as resembling a cannon when viewed from lower ground.
The track features two entry points at Bridge Road and Birchville, with a total walking time of approximately three hours to complete the full circuit.
A railway excursion in October 1932 brought 800 people to explore the area, marking the first major organized group visit to this hiking destination.
