Rabsztyn Castle, Medieval castle ruins in Rabsztyn, Poland
Rabsztyn Castle is a limestone fortress divided into three connected sections: upper castle, middle castle, and lower castle, plus a Renaissance palace built in the 16th century. The different levels work together as a single fortified complex.
King Casimir the Great built the brick fortification in the 14th century, replacing an earlier wooden structure that the Toporczyk noble family had constructed. This new fortress strengthened the region's defenses.
The site hosts Knight Tournaments where the Kruk Brotherhood performs medieval combat and historical reenactments. These events let visitors see how knights fought and lived in earlier times.
The site is accessible to people with reduced mobility and features an observation deck and a cafe in the palace basement. Visit on dry days when the paths are easiest to walk through.
The fortress sits on Krucza Rock at 440 meters elevation and forms part of the Eagles Nests Trail, a hiking route linking several medieval fortifications. The location offers far-reaching views over the Olkusz landscape.
