Tarnowice Stare Castle

Tarnowice Stare Castle is a Renaissance fortification with four wings arranged around an interior courtyard, topped by a massive tower at the southeastern corner. The structure combines stately rooms with practical spaces distributed across multiple levels.

The castle was built between 1520 and 1570 by Piotr Wrochema, a local entrepreneur who accumulated his wealth through mining operations in the region. The building underwent various modifications and adaptations over the following centuries.

The castle now houses an art center focused on traditional crafts and historical collections, offering visitors a window into how people lived and worked in past centuries.

The site is open to visitors throughout the year, with guided tours offered at regular intervals on both weekdays and weekends. It is recommended to check current opening hours before your visit and wear comfortable shoes, as exploring the multi-level rooms requires walking around the structure.

The castle is connected to the old St. Martin's Church through underground tunnels that likely served as secret passages or escape routes during medieval times. These hidden connections remain partially preserved today and reveal the strategic thinking of the original builders.
