Lubin Castle, Medieval castle ruins in Lubin, Poland
Lubin Castle consists of medieval ruins with a Gothic chapel standing as the main surviving structure. The site once featured defensive walls and residential quarters, though most buildings have disappeared over time.
The castle was founded around 1300 by Duke Konrad II on the site of an earlier wooden fortress. Major reconstruction took place under Duke Ludwig I during the mid-14th century. Severe damage during the 17th century left only the chapel standing.
The Gothic chapel reflects religious life of its period through its simple interior and structural design. Visitors can observe how the space was organized for worship and see traces of the craftsmanship that went into its stone details.
The castle site lies southeast of the Market Square and is accessible on foot via Zamkowa Street. Visitors should expect uneven ground and steps, particularly when approaching the chapel area.
A carved stone portal inside the chapel features figures of 14th-century dukes and saints. This artisan work managed to survive the destruction that consumed the rest of the castle complex.
