Kaiser-Wilhelm-Anlage is a residential complex with 24 multi-family villas and gardens, built between 1895 and 1914 along Matejki, Orzeszkowej, Konopnickiej, and Śniadeckich streets. The site also includes the former Posener Sanatorium, founded around 1900 by Dr. Jaffé, which operated as a gynecological and surgical facility until World War I.
Teacher Konstanty Günther initiated the construction through the Hanover Officer Housing Association during a period of intensive urban development in late 19th century Poznań. The building phase spanned multiple decades and created a cohesive residential settlement reflecting this period of rapid urban growth.
The villas display various architectural styles, including Swiss design and Art Nouveau elements, with most buildings designed by architect Max Schenck. This blend of design directions shapes the appearance of the complex and reflects the building tastes of the time.
The complex is easily accessible on foot and bounded by streets that provide clear orientation. The best time to explore is during daytime, when natural light highlights the architectural details of the villas.
One of the buildings formerly used for medical purposes later served as a railway hospital for decades before its conversion to luxury apartments in 2007. This transformation preserved the historical structures while giving them a new purpose.
