Construction of the Holy Cross Church began in 1421 after land acquisition, with completion around 1430, making it a later addition to Gniezno's religious structures.
The church maintains its role as a religious center in Gniezno, with the Literary Brotherhood chapel added to its southern section in the 1600s.
Located near the Pyzdry Gate in southern Gniezno, the church underwent renovations in 1973 that revealed original bricked-up windows in the tower.
The Gothic iron sheet door leading to the sacristy dates from the first half of the 15th century and remains in its original condition.
