Juliusz Osterwa Theatre

Juliusz Osterwa Theatre is a theatre building in Neoclassical style with two connected single-story brick sections and a columned entrance hall. The facades feature decorative designs and the building displays a triangular tympanum above the main door.

The building was constructed in 1873 as an entertainment venue and hosted its first theatrical performance in 1886. A major renovation took place in 1923 and shaped the theatre's appearance for decades to come.

The theatre has been managed by the Municipal Theatre Society since 1917 and carries the name of a prominent Polish actor and director. Today it continues to function as a cultural center for the city and shapes the local arts scene.

The theatre sits on Teatralna Street close to the Warta River and serves as a recognizable landmark in the city area. To attend performances or learn more details, telephone reservations are recommended for visitors.

The main auditorium holds original wall and ceiling paintings from the 1920s created by painter Robert Sandforth during renovation works. These artworks remain as evidence of the artistic activity that took place during this rebuilding phase.
