Tadeusza Kościuszki Square in Szczecin, Public square in Śródmieście-Zachód district, Szczecin, Poland.
Tadeusza Kościuszki Square is a public plaza in Szczecin's downtown west district, ringed by ornate residential buildings from the 1800s. It serves as a traffic hub with a central island where several major streets, including Piastów Avenue and Krzywoustego Street, intersect.
The square was created between 1877 and 1878 under the name Schinkel Square, reflecting the region's historical ties at that time. In 1945, after World War II, it was renamed to honor Polish-Lithuanian military leader Tadeusz Kościuszko.
The square is named after a military hero who fought for Polish and Lithuanian independence, keeping his memory alive in the city. Within it, Janina Szczerska Square honors an educator whose work shaped the local community.
The square is easy to reach by bus, with multiple stops positioned around its edges. Walking from different directions is straightforward thanks to the connecting streets that lead directly to the plaza.
Much of the square's current architecture was rebuilt after World War II destruction, with modern shops replacing what once stood there. This blend of old and new layers gives the plaza its character today.
