Kolumna Fryderyka Wilhelma II

The Denkmal König Friedrich Wilhelm II is a stone column that rests on a square base and stands in Szczytnicki Park. The cylindrical structure contains an internal metal ladder system and marks the spot where a royal statue once stood.

The original structure was made from wood and plaster in 1797 and replaced an even earlier monument. After a fire in 1805, the present stone column was erected in 1806 to preserve the original work.

The monument bears the Prussian king's name and sits within the park's green space where visitors encounter a physical reminder of the city's historical ties to that era. The structure demonstrates how the place retains its connection to this period despite the many changes surrounding it.

The monument stands freely accessible within the park and can be viewed from all sides. Visitors should note that access to the interior is normally not permitted, but the exterior displays all the important architectural details.

During restoration work in 2016, workers discovered a fragment of the original royal statue's hand inside the monument. This finding shows that parts of the earlier monument were integrated into the new stone structure.
