The black poplar at Smoleńskiego Street 31 in Bielany is an exceptionally tall tree with a massive trunk. Its dense canopy spreads widely over the adjacent school grounds and surrounding area.
The tree received natural monument status in 1997, which protected it as part of local natural heritage. This designation recognized a tree that had already stood in the area for many decades.
The tree stands beside a school playground and serves as a natural gathering place for students and local residents of the district. People regularly use the space beneath its branches to meet and spend time together.
The tree is easily accessible and located beside an active school area in a residential neighborhood. The best way to visit is on foot via Smoleńskiego Street, where you can clearly see it from the road.
Although its top was damaged in 2010, it remains the tallest specimen of its kind in the country. This injury affected its growth pattern, but the tree continues to thrive.
