Крипта Спомен-храма Светог Саве

The crypt beneath the Saint Sava Temple is an expansive underground chamber located approximately 23 feet (7 meters) below ground level, decorated with religious artworks, mosaics, and frescoes depicting biblical scenes. The space consists of multiple chambers serving different functions and can be accessed through four separate entrances.

Construction of the crypt began before World War II, and the space later served as a shelter during bombing raids. Following major expansion work in 2001, the chamber doubled in size and became an important religious center.

The underground space serves as a sacred place for worship and regularly hosts religious ceremonies, while also displaying contemporary artworks and spiritual installations. This blend of devotion and artistic expression shows how the crypt shapes both spiritual and cultural life for the Serbian Orthodox community.

Access to the underground chamber is provided by four different entrances located in various parts of the building, allowing multiple routes through the space. Visitors should wear appropriate clothing and be aware that the site remains in active use for religious ceremonies throughout the day.

The crypt includes a designated area with 12 stone sarcophagi reserved for the burial of Serbian Orthodox Patriarchs. This special section highlights the site's role as a final resting place for the highest leaders of the church.
