Невский путепровод, Railway overpass in St. Petersburg, Russia
Nevsky Overpass is a railway overpass in St. Petersburg that spans 1200 meters, connecting the Sortirovochnaya and Moskovskaya railway stations. The structure features five traffic lanes, with three heading toward Slavy Avenue and two toward Ivanovskaya Street, plus pedestrian walkways on both sides.
The overpass opened on October 2, 1974, as part of the Central Arc Highway project that originated in the 1930s to link the southern, eastern, and northern districts. This connection became a key piece of the city's infrastructure development in the decades following World War II.
Large pylons at the entrances display relief sculptures depicting two pivotal moments in the city's past: the 1901 defense and the 1943 end of the blockade. These artworks shape how the structure looks and tells stories that matter to local residents.
The structure is easy to spot when approaching the area from any direction. Both vehicle lanes and pedestrian paths are clearly marked and accessible, making it straightforward to navigate across.
When completed, this concrete structure was among the longest overpasses of its type in the Soviet Union and takes its name from the famous avenue in the city. The structure holds significance for many locals as a landmark of Soviet-era engineering.
