Lomonosovsky Garden

Lomonosovsky Garden is a public green space in Saint Petersburg featuring open meadows, mature trees, and curved pathways that wind through the grounds. The layout includes several open areas and shaded zones beneath the trees, creating natural sections that give the space its character.

The site began as hunting grounds and was later converted into a public recreation area under Catherine the Great's reign. In the early 1800s it received its current character with curved paths and open meadows that replaced earlier formal arrangements.

This space serves as a gathering place where locals spend leisure time, especially during warm seasons when people rest on the grass and walk beneath the shade. The informal ways visitors use the pathways and open areas reflect how important green spaces are to city life.

A landscape architect redesigned the grounds in the early 1800s with an irregular oval meadow that survives to this day. This unexpected shape stands out from the rigid geometric gardens of earlier periods.
