Oblpotrebsoyuz Building, Novosibirsk

The Oblpotrebsoyuz Building is a three-story structure located on Krasny Prospekt street with expansive trading halls, a commodity gallery, and office spaces throughout. Neoclassical elements combined with concrete finishes create the architectural language typical of 1920s Siberia.

Architect Andrey Kryachkov designed the building in 1926 during the New Economic Policy period, when the Soviet Union sought to stabilize its economic system after the Civil War. This era introduced new building types that combined commerce with administration.

The building's name reflects its original purpose as a consumer cooperative center for regional commerce. Visitors can observe how the symmetrical facades and two-story bay windows demonstrate how architects of that era designed spaces for trade and administration.

The building sits centrally on Krasny Prospekt, a main street in the downtown area, making it easy to reach on foot. Visitors should note that some areas may have restricted hours, so checking in advance is helpful.

Seven-meter-tall obelisks topped with spherical light fixtures housed in mesh metal grids stand on both sides of the entrance, illuminating the walkways at night. These striking light structures were part of the original design concept and continue to define the street's character today.
