Памятник М. П. Лазареву

The monument depicts Admiral Mikhail Lazarev as a standing naval officer without a cap, holding a telescope under his left arm in a commanding stance. The bronze figure rises above a granite pedestal that anchors the composition in Sevastopol's landscape.

The monument was erected in 1867, roughly 16 years after Admiral Lazarev's death in 1851, honoring his decades of service to the Black Sea Fleet. Naval officers organized the fundraising campaign that made the monument's construction possible.

Admiral Lazarev held deep significance for Sevastopol's naval community as a celebrated commander of the Black Sea Fleet. The monument reflects how the city's maritime culture and pride in its naval leaders shaped the way people remembered their heroes.

The monument originally stood near the Lazarev Naval Barracks until it was relocated, with a commemorative stone now marking its original site. Visitors can easily approach the memorial from various points in the city's harbor district.

The granite pedestal was designed by architect Nikolai Benois, who crafted a bronze shield bearing the admiral's family coat of arms for the base. These artistic details reflect the craftsmanship and design ambitions of the period in which the monument was built.
