House of Offices, Constructivist office building in Yekaterinburg, Russia
The House of Offices is a four-story building with a distinctive curved corner where Malysheva and 8 March streets meet, featuring large ground-level windows that draw the eye. The structure uses exposed concrete and brick with clean geometric lines characteristic of constructivist design from that period.
Built in 1929 as headquarters for the Agricultural Cooperation Union, it was converted into evacuation hospital number 1708 during World War II from 1941 to 1945. This transformation reflects how Soviet buildings were rapidly repurposed to meet wartime needs.
The building displays the functional design principles of Soviet constructivism, with straight lines and geometric shapes that shaped how people worked in modern offices. Its bold architectural language at street level still influences how the neighborhood looks and feels today.
Today the building functions as a business center housing offices and shops, and you can explore it easily from the street without restrictions. The corner location makes it simple to view the architectural details from different angles.
The building appeared in the Beatles' Back in the USSR music video in 2018, connecting Soviet architecture with Western pop culture in an unexpected way. This appearance brought international attention to this regional heritage site.
