Усадьба Шаховских—Глебовых—Стрешневых, Architectural monument in Presnensky District, Russia
The Shakhovsky-Glebov-Streshnev Estate is a manor house with neoclassical features in Moscow's Presnensky District. The building comprises a central structure with symmetrical wings, tall windows, and ornamental detail, now functioning as an opera performance venue.
The manor was built in 1730 as a residence for the noble Shakhovsky family and later passed to the Glebovs and Streshnevs, who expanded it. A private theater added in 1885 transformed it into a significant commercial performance venue in Moscow after the imperial theater monopoly ended.
The Helikon Opera operates within these walls today, shaping the musical life of the neighborhood with regular performances. The performance spaces host both classical operas and contemporary productions that attract audiences from across the city.
The site is located at the intersection of Bolshaya Nikitskaya Street and Maly Kislovsky Lane and is easily accessible by public transport. Visitors should check the opera schedule in advance, as programming changes seasonally and performances often sell out quickly.
The two theater halls within the building were separated in the early 1900s, allowing multiple productions to run simultaneously. This division was groundbreaking and increased visitor capacity while enabling different operatic works to be programmed at the same time.
