Kirochnaya Street 24, Cultural heritage building in Liteyny Municipal Okrug, Saint Petersburg, Russia
Kirochnaya Street 24 is a seven-story brick building with elaborately decorated facades featuring cornices, ledges, bay windows, and ornamental stucco details. The structure houses multiple residential units while maintaining interior passages that link different sections of the building.
Built in 1904 by architect Boruch Girshovich for publisher Julian Bak, the building originally housed wealthy Saint Petersburg residents as a luxury apartment complex. The structure represents construction during a period when the city was developing its architectural character through such substantial residential developments.
The building blends eclectic and Art Nouveau design, reflecting how Saint Petersburg's wealthy residents expressed their taste through architecture in the early 1900s. The ornate facade with bay windows and stucco details served as a statement of social standing for those who lived within.
The building sits near Chernyshevskaya metro station, making it easy to reach by public transport. Visitors can appreciate the exterior architecture from street level, with good views of the decorated facade from multiple angles along the street.
The courtyard design features aerial passageways connecting the main building to a side wing at different levels, creating an unusual spatial solution. These hanging corridors represent an uncommon approach to residential design that sets this property apart.
