SKA Arena, Ice hockey stadium in Moskovsky District, Saint Petersburg, Russia.
SKA Arena is an ice hockey stadium in Moskovsky District, Saint Petersburg, spread across 182,000 square meters (about 1.96 million square feet) with seating for 22,400 spectators. Alongside the main ice surface, there are several training areas, locker rooms, and technical spaces distributed across multiple floors.
The stadium opened in December 2023, replacing the former Lenin Sport Complex, which was built in 1980 and demolished in 2020. Construction lasted several years and brought Saint Petersburg one of the most modern ice hockey arenas in Russia.
The building takes its name from the Sport Klub Armii, the ice hockey team that plays here throughout the season. On game days, crowds fill the stands and create a loud, close atmosphere typical of Russian sporting events.
The complex sits in the southern part of the city and can be reached by public transport from the center. On game days, arriving earlier helps avoid long lines that can form at the entrances.
The main surface can be converted from ice into a basketball or volleyball court within a few hours, allowing concerts and other events to take place. The movable elements and technical systems are designed so that transformation work is quick and requires no heavy intervention.
