Gorstkin bridge, Pedestrian bridge across Fontanka River, Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Gorstkin Bridge is a pedestrian bridge crossing the Fontanka River and connecting the banks as a continuation of Efimova Street in central Saint Petersburg. The structure has metal railings at both ends and a wooden deck for foot traffic.
The original wooden bridge was built in 1910 and underwent major reconstruction in 1928 to accommodate district heating pipes from a power plant. This renovation was essential to meet the expanding infrastructure needs of the district.
The bridge structure reflects domestic architecture with granite steps and rough-hewn timber, representing a traditional Russian design in an urban setting.
Access is provided by stairs at both ends that lead down to the wooden deck and allow safe crossing. The metal railings offer security for pedestrians moving between city districts.
In a renovation, all wooden girders were replaced with metal I-beams to strengthen the structure. Protective piles were also installed to shield the supports from ice damage during harsh winters.
