Multilayer settlement "Sunny Mys", Archaeological settlement near Sannomyssk, Russia.
Sunny Mys is an archaeological site on the right bank of the Uda River, across from Sannomyssk village in Buryatia. It covers roughly one hectare and contains multiple overlapping layers of human settlement.
Archaeological excavations beginning in 1981 revealed multiple settlement layers with the oldest traces from the Paleolithic period. These findings demonstrate continuous human presence across different prehistoric epochs in Eastern Siberia.
Visitors can observe traces of different communities that inhabited this location across millennia. The layered remains show how daily practices and living arrangements evolved over successive periods.
The site holds federal cultural heritage protection status and is subject to strict preservation rules when visiting. Visitors should check in advance about any necessary permits and stay on marked paths to avoid damaging the archaeological layers.
The settlement sits at the base of Mount Taphar and displays clearly distinct chronological layers side by side. This arrangement allows visitors to read different periods of human civilization in Eastern Siberia as if turning pages in an open book.
