Description
The Matveyev City Estate is a single-story stone building with a wooden mezzanine level that displays classical architectural features from the 19th century. The structure preserves typical characteristics of residential design from that era with its proportioned facades and period details.
History
The house was built in 1838 by Moscow merchant Stepan Matveyevich Matveyev and later passed to his daughter and then to the merchant family Butyugin. Architect I.S. Kuznetsov carried out a major reconstruction between 1908 and 1910 and then used the building as his residence.
Culture
The building sits in an area that once housed a German-speaking community. Its facade still shows the blend of local Russian and European design elements from that period.
Practical
The building is located near central Moscow and is relatively easy to reach. After comprehensive renovation work finished in 2020, the historic house was converted into a comfortable accommodation with modern facilities.

Kuznetsov lived in the reconstructed house from 1910 until 1975 and shaped it through his personal touch. The architect's long connection to this place made it a location where architectural history was directly lived and experienced.
