Liljeholmsbron, Bascule road bridge in Stockholm Municipality, Sweden
Liljeholmsbron is a dual bascule bridge that spans Liljeholmsviken waterway and connects Södermalm island to the Liljeholmen district. The structure features two parallel roadways running side by side, allowing vehicles to cross in both directions simultaneously.
The bridge traces its origins to a wooden structure from the 1600s that underwent several major rebuilds over the centuries. The current twin-bridge configuration reached completion in 1954.
The bridge marks the transition between central Stockholm and its southern districts, forming a central part of the city's transportation network.
The bridge opens regularly to let ships and boats pass through, so drivers should expect occasional delays during vessel passages. It is best to avoid crossing during peak traffic hours when through-traffic is highest.
Each of the twin bridges includes three 40-meter spans with a mechanical flap on the westernmost section for water vessel passage.
