Marievik, Urban district in Stockholm Municipality, Sweden
Marievik is an urban district along the northern shore of Årstaviken, combining commercial and residential buildings near the waterfront. The area features modern construction with mixed-use developments spread along the waterside pathways.
The area began as a railway center in the 1860s with locomotive stations and repair workshops. It later shifted to industrial use and eventually became a modern service and office district.
The district demonstrates how water access shapes modern neighborhood design in Stockholm. You can see this in the way residents and workers use the waterfront pathways and open spaces as part of their daily routines.
Several bus routes connect the district to Stockholm's public transportation system and cycling paths line the waterfront. Walking and cycling routes are well marked, making it easy to explore the area on foot or by bicycle.
The district expanded rapidly from the 1980s onward as a major employment hub. This quick shift from industrial uses to modern offices created a unique layered landscape where old industrial elements still stand alongside new construction.
