Eslöv Community Centre, Community centre in Eslöv, Sweden
Eslöv Community Centre comprises three connected sections: a funnel-shaped assembly area, a single-story public access block, and a five-story office tower. The structure integrates different functions within a unified architectural design.
Hans Asplund won a 1947 architectural competition with his design called 'Diagonal Balance', which beat out 157 other proposals. Construction started in 1955 and brought modernist principles to a local community building.
The main auditorium features a distinctive curtain designed by Hans Asplund and woven by Gunilla Fleming, showcasing theatrical performance motifs that define the room's character. This artwork makes the space a focal point for the community's cultural gatherings.
The building hosts social meetings, theater performances, dance shows, exhibitions, and concerts for residents and visitors. A central courtyard with benches and small trees offers a natural gathering spot where skylights bring in daylight from above.
Skylights and windows are strategically placed to flood a central courtyard with benches and trees with natural light from above. This thoughtful lighting design creates an unexpected inner connection between the separate parts of the complex.
