Carmel de Norraby, Carmelite monastery near Tågarp, Sweden
Carmel de Norraby is a monastery located about two kilometers northeast of Tågarp in Svalöv municipality in southern Swedish Skåne province. The house contains nine rooms for visitors who wish to participate in spiritual activities and prayer sessions.
Three Flemish Carmelite monks purchased land and buildings in 1968 and established this religious center under Prior Emmanuel Martens. Since then it has become a center for monastic life and prayer in the region.
The monks here follow strict enclosure rules and dedicate themselves to silence and contemplative prayer according to Carmelite traditions.
Visitors can stay in one of the nine rooms and participate in the monastery's daily prayer sessions. It is best to arrange your visit in advance since the place is intended for individuals and groups with spiritual purposes.
From 1971 to 1998 Cardinal Anders Arborelius lived as a monk at this monastery before becoming Bishop of Stockholm's Catholic Diocese. His years here left a deep mark on the community and its spiritual practice.
