Yangtorp, Qigong temple in Hörby Municipality, Sweden.
Yangtorp is a qigong and wellness center in Hörby Municipality, southern Sweden, housed in a converted school building with several meditation halls and practice spaces. The grounds also include guest rooms, a vegetarian restaurant, and outdoor areas with Chinese-inspired garden design.
The center was founded in 1998 when Marcus Bongart bought a former school and transformed it into a place for Eastern medicine and practice. It was among the first facilities of its kind in Sweden and drew visitors from across the country from early on.
The center is built around qigong and traditional Chinese medicine, and most visitors come to take part in courses or receive treatments. The layout and decor follow Chinese design principles, which gives the grounds a look and feel that stands apart from anything else in the Swedish countryside.
A visit works best when planned in advance, since the schedule of courses and treatments changes throughout the year. Guests can stay overnight on site and eat at the center's restaurant, which makes it easy to spend several days there without needing to leave.
The grounds include a Buddha park with moss-covered statues placed among Swedish trees, each representing a different natural element. This outdoor area is open to walk through even without signing up for a course, making it one of the few parts of the site accessible without a booking.
