Mörby workshops, Motive power depot in Danderyd Municipality, Sweden
Mörby workshops is a rail maintenance depot near Mörby railway station in Danderyd Municipality, Sweden. It is made up of long brick and concrete sheds with large doors, where trains of the Roslagsbanan network are parked on tracks and repaired.
The nearby railway station opened in 1906, and the workshops have supported train service on the Roslagsbanan line since the early twentieth century. Over time, their role shifted as rail travel patterns changed, but they have remained the main place for repairing and maintaining the narrow-gauge rolling stock.
Near the workshops, the name Mörby comes from old words meaning 'Myri village', a reminder of an older settlement in this now-residential area. The long brick sheds and rail tracks stand out among modern houses and trees, showing how train upkeep has stayed rooted in the daily rhythm of the neighborhood.
The site is generally closed to the public, but the buildings can be viewed from outside along nearby roads and footpaths. Walking from Mörby railway station toward the workshops takes only a few minutes, and the surrounding area is easy to navigate on foot.
The workshops serve one of the few remaining narrow-gauge suburban railways in Sweden, which uses a track width smaller than standard lines. Train wheels and parts kept here must match that narrower gauge, a detail most passersby never notice when looking at the sheds from the street.
