Šútovský vodopád

Šútovský vodopád, Waterfall in Mala Fatra Mountains, Slovakia.

Šútovský vodopád is a waterfall in the Mala Fatra Mountains that plunges over limestone formations, creating a dramatic vertical drop. The water cascades through a narrow gorge surrounded by forested slopes within the national park.

The waterfall gained protected status in 1980 as a natural monument within the Sutovska Valley reserve. This designation reflected Slovakia's early efforts to safeguard important natural sites from development.

Local mountain communities maintain traditional hiking practices by organizing seasonal guided tours to the waterfall, sharing knowledge about regional flora and fauna.

The marked trail to the waterfall starts from Šútovo village and takes about an hour and a half of walking. Sturdy footwear is essential as the path involves wet rocks and steep sections that can be slippery.

The water originates from Moses Springs beneath Hromove Ridge and flows throughout the year without drying up. During winter, ice formations coat the rocks and create a completely different view than warmer seasons offer.
