Bernardine Monastery, Iziaslav, Baroque monastery in Iziaslav, Ukraine.
The Bernardine Monastery in Iziaslav is a Baroque complex featuring a stone church, bell tower, and associated chapels set on the elevated bank of the Horyn River. The buildings are arranged compactly to form a unified religious settlement.
The monastery was founded in 1602 under Prince Janusz Zasławski during the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The architects Jakub Madlaina and Paolo Fontana designed the complex as a major religious establishment.
The monastery served as a religious center where the Bernardine community shaped local worship practices and spiritual traditions. The presence of friars influenced how residents approached faith and devotion in their daily lives.
The monastery is located at Patriotiv Street 4 in Iziaslav but is not open to the general public. The site currently functions as a prison, which means visitors cannot access the interior spaces.
The monastery walls were built with defensive features that protected the city while allowing religious life to continue. This blend of fortress and sanctuary was common for settlements located near territorial boundaries.
