Cafe Au Go Go, Music venue in Greenwich Village, New York, US
The Cafe Au Go Go operated in a basement at 152 Bleecker Street, featuring dedicated performance areas and seating for entertainment enthusiasts.
From its opening in February 1964 until December 1970, the venue hosted numerous musical performances by artists including Grateful Dead, Van Morrison, and Jimi Hendrix.
The establishment bridged multiple genres, presenting folk singers, jazz musicians, rock bands, and comedians such as George Carlin and Lenny Bruce on its stage.
Located beneath the Garrick Theatre building, the venue underwent renovations in 1969 that included kitchen upgrades and installation of new sound equipment.
Club owner Howard Solomon and comedian Lenny Bruce faced legal prosecution and received guilty verdicts for obscenity charges following performances at the venue in 1964.
