Chelsea Corners

Chelsea Corners is a residential complex comprising four apartment buildings constructed with variegated orange brick. The lobbies feature vaulted ceilings and ornamental tile work throughout their interiors.

Development of the complex began in 1931 under developer Henry Mandel but remained unfinished due to financial hardship during the Great Depression. The project reflected the economic struggles that halted construction during that era.

The buildings display art deco features in their design, while one structure houses Barneys New York on its lower floors along 7th Avenue.

The complex sits near several subway stations, making public transportation conveniently accessible for residents and visitors. The neighborhood offers easy walking access to numerous art galleries and local shops.

The buildings retain their original 1930s architectural details, including polychrome tile decorations and steel casement windows in selected sections. These handcrafted elements demonstrate the quality of materials and workmanship typical of that period.
