Cherry Bank, Historic residence in Clinton, Iowa
Cherry Bank is a two-story brick residence in Clinton featuring dark red masonry with light-colored brick accents on the corners and window openings. The building retains many of its original details beneath a hipped roof, though its front porch was removed in 1920.
The house was built in 1871 by Dennis Warren for his nephew and later purchased by Dr. Ankeny. It earned listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999.
The residence shows how wealthy Iowa residents chose to design their homes and what architectural styles mattered to them. The Renaissance Revival elements reflect the taste of the era and were popular throughout the region.
The residence sits along Main Avenue where its brick facade is clearly visible from the street. Visitors can view the architecture from the sidewalk to appreciate the detailed styling and structure from the outside.
The house features a widow's walk on the roof, a characteristic detail of buildings from this period. These elements demonstrate the craftsmanship of 19th-century construction and the care taken in the brick patterns.
