Edwin Forrest House, Italianate mansion on North Broad Street, Philadelphia, USA
The Edwin Forrest House features a three-story brick structure with decorative bracketed hoods over windows that decrease in height from first to third floors.
Built between 1853 and 1854 by architect Stephen Decatur Button, the mansion served as residence for celebrated American actor Edwin Forrest until his death in 1872.
The Philadelphia School of Design for Women operated in this building from 1880 to 1960, becoming one of the largest art education institutions for women nationwide.
The Freedom Theatre currently occupies the building at 1346 North Broad Street, offering professional instruction in acting and live theatre production to the community.
The property includes original features such as a private theater with a small stage and a courtyard with a fountain from its time as Forrest's residence.
