George N. Parks Minuteman Marching Band Building, Music education facility at University of Massachusetts Amherst, United States
The George N. Parks Minuteman Marching Band Building contains two floors with rehearsal spaces, classrooms, and specialized facilities for over 350 student musicians.
The construction of this $5.7 million structure began in spring 2010 and reached completion in summer 2011, replacing the band's previous locations in Old Chapel.
Students gather in practice rooms to prepare for performances at sporting events, competitions, and special occasions throughout the academic year.
The building connects to Grinnell Arena and includes storage areas for instruments, uniforms, administrative offices, and meeting spaces for band members.
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick designated October 16, 2010 as George N. Parks Day to recognize the director's contributions to music education.
