Great Esker Park, Nature reserve and hiking trails in Weymouth, Massachusetts.
The 237-acre park features North America's tallest esker, rising 90 feet above the Weymouth Back River with surrounding salt marshes and woodlands.
The natural landscape formed 12,000 years ago when glacial movements created winding ridges of stratified sand and gravel deposits throughout the area.
Environmental education programs engage local children through Wey-Rec activities, teaching them about native wildlife and geological formations during summer months.
The park provides six miles of marked trails, multiple observation points along the river, and designated areas for picnicking and playground activities.
The park's reversing falls create an unusual natural phenomenon, while purpose-built shelters host seasonal osprey nests above the river waters.
