HUB Tower, Office skyscraper in downtown Des Moines, United States.
HUB Tower is an office building with 25 floors in downtown Des Moines that rises 325 feet (99 meters) into the air. The facade combines glass, metal, and brick elements, while eight floors at the base hold retail and commercial spaces beneath the upper office levels.
The design was created in 1984 by Herbert Lewis Kruse Blunck Architecture, and The Weitz Company completed construction in 1986. The building emerged during a growth period for office spaces in Des Moines.
The tower serves as a key reference point in Des Moines' skyline, where the architecture reflects the city's commercial evolution. The lower levels buzz with daily foot traffic as office workers and visitors move through the retail spaces.
The building sits on Walnut Street where foot traffic flows easily and nearby DART bus stops provide public transit access. The retail areas at ground level are open during business hours and available for browsing without entering the office spaces above.
A 2014 fire in the neighboring Younkers Building during its renovation damaged portions of the tower and required repairs to restore it. This incident revealed the interconnected history of multiple structures sharing this downtown block.
