Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve

Hatcher Garden is a botanical garden in Spartanburg that spreads across several acres with walking trails, ponds, and different plant communities throughout. The grounds feature a large collection of trees and shrubs that represent various forest types found in the region.

The property was founded in 1969 when a local couple began converting abandoned farmland into a garden space. Over the following decades the project grew and changed, eventually becoming the destination it is today.

The garden welcomes visitors to move through its different sections at their own pace, offering quiet spaces to observe native plants and wildlife. Walking here feels like moving between rooms in nature, each area revealing something different about the local landscape.

The garden is open daily from sunrise to sunset with no admission fee. The trails are easy to walk, though some areas have hills, so comfortable shoes are recommended for exploring the full grounds.

The garden focuses especially on conifers and displays an unusual collection of species like Bald Cypress and Larches that are not commonly seen in typical garden collections. This specialized focus makes it notable among people interested in tree varieties.
