James V. Forrestal Building, Federal office building in Southwest, United States.

The James V. Forrestal Building contains three interconnected structures, including an East Building with eight floors and a North Building elevated on concrete pillars.

Constructed between 1965 and 1969, the structure initially served as Federal Office Building 5 before becoming the Department of Energy headquarters in 1977.

The building represents architectural practices of the 1960s with its concrete surfaces and geometric forms, following the principles of Brutalist design.

Located at 1000 Independence Avenue SW, the complex spans 1,688,484 square feet and houses numerous government offices related to energy policy and administration.

The North Building stands on 35-foot-high concrete columns, creating a covered passage that provides direct access to L'Enfant Plaza below.
