National Museum of Asian Art, Art museum at National Mall, United States.
The National Museum of Asian Art is an art museum on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., housing works from across Asia spanning thousands of years. The collection contains more than 26,000 objects from multiple regions and periods.
The museum was established in 1987 from a major donation by Dr. Arthur M. Sackler, who contributed Chinese jades and ancient bronzes. This gift provided the foundation for what has grown into a significant collection of Asian art.
The collection displays ceramics, sculptures, textiles, and paintings from different artistic traditions across China, Japan, Korea, and South Asia. Visitors can see how each region developed its own distinct approach to color, form, and decoration.
The museum is easily accessible from the National Mall and there are no special requirements for entry. The buildings are fully open to the public, and visitors can move through the galleries at their own pace.
Adjacent to the galleries is a four-acre garden with fountains and brick pathways featuring seasonal plantings. This outdoor space offers visitors a place to pause between exhibits.
