Jones Memorial Library, Research library in Lynchburg, Virginia, US.
Jones Memorial Library is a research collection located on the second floor of the public library building on Memorial Avenue and focuses on genealogy. It holds church records, court documents, census data, and family papers that mainly come from central Virginia.
The facility was founded in 1908 by Mary Frances Watts Jones as a memorial to her deceased husband George Morgan Jones. It became one of the earliest collections of its kind in the region and has grown over more than 100 years.
The collection focuses on family histories and local records from central Virginia that visitors can explore when researching their own roots. Here you find handwritten documents, old newspapers, and personal papers that reflect how people lived in earlier times.
The collection is open to visitors Tuesday through Saturday who want to do genealogical research. For detailed work, it helps to check what materials are available and ask about hours before you visit.
The original building featured nine stained glass windows depicting different aspects of human expression and creativity. Two of these artistic windows still survive and are displayed at the present location.
