The Academy of Music stands on Main Street with its symmetrical Beaux-Arts facade, featuring ornate moldings and grand staircases throughout the interior.
Built in 1904 by architectural firm Frye & Chesterman, this theater earned its place on the National Register of Historic Places in June 1969.
The stage of the Academy has welcomed numerous performers including Ignace Paderewski, Anna Pavlova, Sarah Bernhardt, and Alma Gluck over the decades.
The venue continues to serve the community by offering concerts, theater productions, and educational programs focused on performing arts appreciation.
This building represents one of the last remaining legitimate theaters from the early twentieth century still standing in Virginia.
