Knollwood, Historic estate on Salisbury Street in Worcester, United States

Knollwood is a grand residence in Worcester built in the early 1900s with stucco walls, a complex hipped roof, and asymmetrical side wings extending across about 15 acres. The main house has two and a half stories and is accompanied by multiple secondary buildings on the grounds, including a caretaker's cottage and additional structures.

The residence was built during the 1910s for Lyman Gordon, a co-founder of the industrial company Wyman-Gordon. Gordon died before the estate's construction was fully completed, marking an important moment in its development.

The estate reflects how wealthy industrialists of the early 1900s chose to live, with French-inspired design and formal gardens that displayed their status. This architectural approach continues to shape how the place looks and functions today.

The estate is currently occupied by Notre Dame Academy, a private girls' school, so access to the grounds is restricted. You can view the property from Salisbury Street where it sits, though a closer visit to the buildings themselves is not available to the general public.

The residence preserves several original architectural details, including a three-story central pavilion with a decorated gable and a western wing featuring a Palladian window that opens onto a terrace. These design elements reveal the craftsmanship and artistic choices made when the house was first built.
