Museum of World War II, Military history museum in Natick, Massachusetts, US.
The Museum of World War II displayed more than seven thousand objects from the years between 1939 and 1945, including uniforms, vehicles, weapons, and personal letters written by soldiers and civilians. The rooms were organized chronologically and guided visitors through different phases of the war in Europe and the Pacific.
The museum opened in 1999 and spent over two decades gathering objects and documents from all theaters of the second world war. The institution closed in 2019 when the entire collection was sold to a private collector.
The museum maintained an archive of 500,000 photographs and documents, including letters from Roosevelt, Churchill, Stalin, and Eisenhower during World War II.
The exhibition was open Wednesday through Sunday, and a full visit took about two hours through the different rooms. Most texts and explanations were written in English.
The archives held one of the largest private collections of photographs and letters from the second world war, including rare documents from German and Japanese sources. Visitors could read handwritten messages from soldiers written shortly before or after major battles.
