National Memorial Arch, Monument in Valley Forge National Historical Park, Pennsylvania, US
The National Memorial Arch stands 60 feet tall at the intersection of Gulph Road and Outer Line Drive atop a hill in Valley Forge.
The monument commemorates General George Washington and the Continental Army's winter encampment at Valley Forge from December 1777 to June 1778.
French-trained architect Paul Philippe Cret designed this structure based on Rome's Triumphal Arch of Titus, reflecting classical American memorial architecture.
Visitors can access the memorial throughout the year as part of Valley Forge National Historical Park's extensive network of historical landmarks.
The structure, initially planned as one of two memorial arches, received a comprehensive $1.5 million restoration in 1996 funded by Pennsylvania Masons.
