Ober Mountain Adventure Park & Ski Area

Ober Mountain is a ski resort and adventure park in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, featuring ten downhill runs and a vertical drop of roughly 600 feet (180 meters) from summit to base. Beyond the slopes, the property includes an alpine slide, an ice skating rink, a wildlife encounter area, and several rides that operate throughout the year.

The resort opened in the 1960s as the first facility of its kind in the southeastern United States, introducing alpine sports to a region with little natural snow. Over the decades, the operation expanded beyond winter to include year-round attractions and activities for families.

The mountain attraction brings winter sports culture to Tennessee, introducing skiing and snowboarding to residents of the southeastern United States.

Visitors reach the property by boarding an aerial tramway at Parkway in Gatlinburg, which runs daily and provides the only road-free access to the summit. During warmer months, many facilities remain open so you can enjoy the views and attractions even outside ski season.

Snowmaking machines allow winter sports in a climate that rarely sees heavy snowfall, making this the southernmost ski area in the eastern United States. The combination of ski runs and year-round rides creates an unusual hybrid rarely found in the Appalachian mountains.
