Pleasure Island, Water park in Norton Shores, Michigan, United States.
Pleasure Island was a 25-acre water recreation facility in Norton Shores with 13 water slides, two mini golf courses, paddle boats, and gas-powered bumper boats. The grounds also included a dedicated children's swimming area and a popular food venue called Weenie Hut.
This water park opened in 1981 and operated for 16 years until its closure in 1997. The facility closed when Michigan's Adventure WildWater Adventure opened nearby with larger capacity attractions.
The Black Hole water slide, built into a hill with a steep initial drop, became a defining symbol of summer entertainment for local families. Visitors sought out this attraction as the centerpiece of their seasonal outings.
The facility was located at East Pontaluna Road in the Muskegon area and was easily accessible for regional visitors. Today the site no longer operates as a park and has become a residential neighborhood.
After closing in 1997, the entire property was auctioned and transformed into a residential subdivision called Windflower Bay. This transformation shows how leisure facilities often become housing when they are no longer economically viable.
